This Day in Music
December 23rd
Things are slowing down as Christmas approaches, but there are still some happenings of note on this day in music.
Events
1970: Legendary Canadian singer-songwriter Joni Mitchell earns her first Gold record when her third LP, "Ladies of the Canyon," is certified by the RIAA. The album would eventually reach Platinum.
1978: "Da Ya Think I'm Sexy," a disco-style song by British rocker Rod Stewart, enters the Billboard Top-40. It would remain there for 18 weeks and peak at No. 1.
2015: Brenda Lee's classic 1960 Christmas hit, "Rockin' Around the Christmas Tree," re-enters the Billboard Top-40 thanks to its popularity on streaming sites.
The Daily Elvis
1973: Elvis spent the night watching movies at the Memphian Theatre in Memphis with friends. He was photographed outside the theatre meeting fans. [Editor: What can I say? This is “The Daily Elvis,” not “The Exciting Elvis.” :)]
